Cabs and Shuttles

Re “A Little Kindness Couldn’t Hurt,” editorial, Sept. 4:
Cab drivers at Los Angeles International Airport are, in my experience, much better at their jobs than shuttle drivers. The last three times I took shuttles home from the airport (and I do mean the last three times--it’s cabs from now on for me) were nightmares.
On one occasion, the driver was stopped for speeding and announced to us that we were lucky the policeman hadn’t run a check on his license, since he had two outstanding warrants. On another occasion, the shuttle ran out of gas in the middle of a busy intersection. We passengers pushed it to a gas station on the corner. Most recently, I was driven from the airport “directly” to West Hollywood via the 105 Freeway to downtown L.A., despite my protests that it was a ridiculous route. All that for a price that’s rarely more than $5 lower than a cab ride.
The City Council should send shuttle drivers to school before taxi drivers.
