Dave Bessler has been rehired as coach of the Van Nuys High girls’ volleyball team. Bessler resigned after the Wolves were removed from the City Section 4-A Division playoffs last season for using an ineligible player.
Patricia Denny replaced Bessler, but she stepped down last week when she decided to enter a two-year teacher credential program.
Stepping up: Courtney Miller, Westlake High’s 6-foot-2 volleyball standout, has decided to play on an injured left foot, postponing surgery until after her senior season.
Swarming: Jay Kirchoff made four field goals to lift the Simi Valley Swarm (3-1) to a 12-6 victory over the Utah Panther-Catzz in a Pacific Football League game Saturday at Simi Valley High.
Foot notes: Nicole Bucciarelli (Grant High) scored twice Sunday to lead the UC Irvine women’s soccer team past Cal State Northridge, 4-1, at Irvine.
Former Thousand Oaks High standout Shannon Thomas gave UCLA (4-0) a 1-0 lead Sunday in a 3-0 nonconference victory over Pepperdine (1-2).
Britt Christensen scored three goals and Moorpark College routed Porterville, 12-0, Sunday in a women’s nonconference match.
The Cal State Northridge men’s team (0-3) surrendered a free-kick goal in the 93rd minute Sunday and lost to Gonzaga, 2-1, in overtime at the Nevada Las Vegas tournament.
