Volunteers Sought to Teach Adult Literacy
- Share via
The Conejo Valley Adult School is seeking volunteers to help others read.
A free workshop to teach volunteers how to tutor other adults in basic literacy skills will be held Sept. 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the adult school at 1025 Old Farm Road.
Volunteers don’t need a teaching background but they should have a good knowledge of English and a lot of patience, said volunteer coordinator Marge Ceran. The workshop will train tutors how to teach basic phonics, plan lessons and use workbooks.
Upon completion of training, volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of two hours a week to help out at the adult school’s literacy center.
Last year 4,300 hours of volunteer time were logged to help 160 students, Ceran said. To register, call 374-1161. For more information, call Ceran at (818) 889-8415.
