Radio Stations Plan Independence Parties
Seven Latin American nations--Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras, Chile, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Nicaragua--celebrate their independence in mid-September. A number of local radio stations--and much of their on-air talent--will mark the occasion by taking part in free special events throughout the Southland this weekend.
Heftel Broadcasting will co-host a seven-hour celebration Sunday featuring Mexican singing sensations Fey and Cristian at Whittier Narrows in South El Monte.
KSSE-FM (97.5) will participate in a three-day fiesta, Friday through Sunday, at the corner of 4th and Main streets in Santa Ana, and KKHJ and KBUE will mark the holidays, beginning Friday, with a three-day event featuring regional Mexican music at MacArthur Park in downtown Los Angeles.
Nearby, at the corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Westlake Avenue, Radio Centro America--KVCA-AM (670)--will co-host a Sunday celebration featuring a variety of salsa-flavored sounds.
