Robinson Comes to Camp Restrained

King Coach Larry Robinson made his first training camp appearance Thursday after spending the early part of the week in Montreal as a witness in a court case over a bad business deal.

In his first session with reporters, Robinson said he liked the Kings’ off-season moves but downplayed any training camp excitement over the team’s new additions, Luc Robitaille, Jozef Stumpel, Sandy Moger and Garry Galley.

“Going into the season, I’m going to try and be a little more guarded [with] optimism,” Robinson said. “I was a little over-optimistic about our team the last couple of years, which led to disappointment. We expected a lot from free agents who we thought would put us over the hump.”

Still unsigned besides Yachmenev are goaltender Jamie Storr, center Eric Belanger and left wings Jeff Shevalier and Josh Green.

Reaching a deal with Storr is the highest priority but it is also important for the Kings to sign Belanger and Green, both picked by the Kings in the 1996 draft.
