Hurleys Hold Family Reunion at 50-Yard Line

It was a regular Hurley hoedown, four generations deep.
Newbury Park High played host to Sahuaro of Tucson, Ariz., Friday night because Panther Coach George Hurley’s oldest son, Ethan, is a Sahuaro assistant coach. George Hurley’s parents, George and Virginia, drove down from Taft to see the game and to hold their one-year-old great-grandson, Shaydon Williamson, whose mom is George Hurley’s daughter Erin.
Still another Hurley was present, and he was hard to miss: A 6-foot-5, 272 pounds, Panther lineman Ryan, Ethan’s younger brother, is the most burly Hurley.
Only slightly less excited than the Hurleys were the Sahuaro players, who wanted to visit the school that produced Arizona quarterback Keith Smith. Ethan Hurley and Smith are roommates.
Watching the action on the field was the top priority for George Sr. and Virginia Hurley.
“There will no coaching favoritism tonight,” Virginia said before the game. “But we will enjoy watching our grandson play for Newbury Park.”
