The Simi Valley Swarm, ranked 21st among the nation’s more than 200 minor league football teams, will play the North County (San Diego) Cheetahs at 7 tonight in a Pacific Football League game at Simi Valley High.
The ranking, issued by the American Football Assn., vaults the Swarm (3-1, 2-0 in the Southern Division) into the upper echelon of teams expected to contend for regional and divisional titles later in the season.
“We’re all pretty excited about it,” said Swarm co-owner Karlisa Aronson. “I’d say it’s fairly impressive for a first-year team like ours.”
Two stars: Two teams from the area, Westlake and Harvard-Westlake, are ranked No. 2 in the girls’ volleyball state preseason poll. Westlake is behind Mountain View St. Francis in Division II while the Wolverines are behind Bishop Montgomery in Division III.
Flintridge Sacred Heart is No. 5 in the Division IV poll.
