Golden West Reaches Water Polo Semifinals

Ivan Vranjes scored four goals to lead Golden West to an 11-4 victory over Ventura and to the semifinals of the Cuesta men’s water polo tournament Friday.
Andre Pedroni scored six goals for Golden West, which beat San Diego Mesa in the first match of the day, 21-8.
Golden West will meet Saddleback, which beat Long Beach, 9-4, and Diablo Valley, 7-5. Orange Coast also advanced after beating Cuesta, 6-1, and Modesto, 7-5.
Golden West and Saddleback meet at 11:20 a.m. today, followed by Orange Coast and West Valley at noon. The final is at 3:20 p.m. at Cuesta College.
In the Cypress women’s water polo tournament:
Modesto 10, Cypress 3--Vanessa Juarez scored three goals for Cypress (2-1) in a pool-play loss.
Cypress’ Debbie Petrisevac scored five goals in a 16-3 victory over Santa Monica in an earlier game. Goalie Sosy Markanian had 12 saves for the Chargers.
Santa Ana 13, Rio Hondo 10--Kristin Thompson scored nine goals for Santa Ana (1-3).
In nonconference women’s soccer:
Cypress 5, Moorpark 0--Lori Harris and Nicole Terry each had two goals and an assist for Cypress (2-1).
Santa Ana 2, San Bernardino 0--Cecilia Zuniga scored in the fifth minute off Maggie Campo’s assist and Lilia Cisneros scored an unassisted goal in the 30th minute for host Santa Ana (3-1). San Bernardino is 0-2.
In nonconference men’s soccer:
Cypress 4, Cuyamaca 1--Cypress (2-0) scored four second-half goals, including three by Danny Arreguin, to beat Cuyamaca (0-2).
Orange Coast 1, Mt. San Antonio 1--Areil Gavilan scored first for the Pirates in the 66th minute and Alexander Bengard of Mt. San Antonio tied the score 20 minutes later. Carlos Loza had nine saves for Orange Coast (0-2-2).
