Re “Sanctions Sought to End Religious Persecution,” Sept. 8:
During the ’96 campaign the Republican Party campaigned for cutting pork-barrel federal programs such as the education of children. Now Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) wants to create a White House office to monitor Christian persecution by mobs and impose sanctions on the foreign countries that they reside in?
Now I understand why moderate Republican congressmen attempted to overthrow their current House leaders. These out-of-touch philosophies are ruining the foundations of the Republican Party. House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Specter alone will ensure the success of Al Gore’s campaign during the 2000 elections.
