Authorities have released the name of a 57-year-old man who died when his speeding car slammed into a wall on the Moorpark Freeway.
Silvio Michael Disantis of Apple Valley was pronounced dead at 10:15 a.m. Monday in the emergency room of Columbia Los Robles Hospital, according to a spokesman with the Ventura County medical examiner’s office.
An autopsy was being performed Tuesday morning. Officials said Disantis, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered major chest and head injuries.
California Highway Patrol officers said Disantis, a disabled furniture store employee who was widowed and had no children, was weaving in and out of traffic as he sped south near the Olsen Road overpass at 9:41 a.m.
He lost control of his Chevrolet Camaro and, after hitting the center divider and veering across the freeway, slammed head-on into the retaining wall, authorities said.
