Students Helping Buy Books at New Library
- Share via
Students attending Mission Viejo schools are chipping in nickels and dimes to buy children’s books for the city’s new library opening Oct. 25.
Library officials will reward the students by placing the schools’ names on a donor wall in the entranceway of the $6.5-million facility. The city has collected more than $1,000 from nine schools, each trying to raise at least $200.
“Some schools have raised more than the $200,” City Librarian Valerie Meyer said. “Barcelona Elementary has raised over $300, and a fifth-grade class from Reilly Elementary has raised more than $200.”
The city began building the 27,500-square-foot library a year ago after withdrawing from the Orange County Public Library System.
The grand opening will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Oct. 25, 25209 Marguerite Parkway.
