Cal Lutheran Gets Boot Out of Holeman

Kim Holeman’s goal at 52:31 lifted Cal Lutheran to a 3-1 victory over La Verne in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference soccer match Wednesday at Cal Lutheran.
Holeman’s second goal of the game came on a perfectly placed free kick from Lara Philby and broke a 1-1 tie.
The Regals (4-2, 3-0 in SCIAC play), who are ranked 16th in the NCAA Division III and are 73-1-1 in their seven seasons as SCIAC members, took sole possession of first place.
Cal Lutheran outshot the Leopards (5-1, 2-1), 17-3.
In another women’s soccer match:
CS Los Angeles 2, CS Northridge 0--Ashley Bushey and Kristy Contreras scored for the Golden Eagles (3-3) in a nonconference match at Northridge. Tawni Takagi had 10 saves for the Matadors (1-8).
MEN’S WATER POLO
Valley 22, Rio Hondo 14--Joey Bennett scored four goals and Pete Driscoll had 10 saves for the Monarchs (7-4, 1-1) in a Western State Conference game at Valley.
Ventura 20, Santa Monica 6--Chris Parrish scored 10 goals for the Pirates (10-2, 2-0) in a WSC game at Ventura.
The Corsairs (3-11, 0-2) had 22 shots turned away by Ventura’s goalkeeping committee. Curtis Tolmie and Kyle Finley each had nine saves and Tom Graham made four saves while playing the final four minutes.
WOMEN’S WATER POLO
Valley 16, Rio Hondo 9--Goalie Melissa Minkey had two length-of-the-pool, two-point goals for the Monarchs (5-5, 1-0) in a WSC game at Valley.
