Foothill, ranked first in the county and second in Southern Section Division I, will get its first big test of the season in the South Coast tournament, which starts today at four schools in the county.
In addition to defending champion Foothill, the tournament’s field includes all of the county’s top ten teams including San Clemente, Los Alamitos, Santa Margarita, Capistrano Valley, Villa Park, Newport Harbor, Costa Mesa, Laguna Beach and Esperanza. Division I leader Long Beach Wilson will also be in attendance and eager to make up for last year’s, 8-7 loss to the Knights. Foothill will be led by two-meter man Robby Arroyo and goalkeeper Nick Ellis.
Games today and Friday begin at 3 p.m. at Newport Harbor, Corona del Mar, Irvine and Tustin high schools. Finals are scheduled for 3:40 p.m. Saturday at Newport Harbor.
