Inland Winds Make Region Feel the Heat

Summer returns to the San Fernando Valley in a big way this week, with temperatures reaching the high 90s and the low 100s on Monday and Tuesday.

“The reason it’s been so warm is that winds blowing from inland areas to the Pacific Ocean have kept cooler sea breezes from coming in,” said John Sherwin, a meteorologist with WeatherData Inc., which provides forecast information to The Times.

Wednesday and Thursday, temperatures will dip to the mid-80s and lower 90s as morning low clouds keep sunshine at bay until early afternoon, Sherwin said.

“There are no tropical systems right now in the Pacific. I can almost guarantee dry weather this week.”

Today’s high temperatures are expected to be 97 in Burbank, 100 in Woodland Hills and 102 in Van Nuys.
