Union Dues

Proposition 226 supporters, according to a union leader, Hubert Lloyd (letter, March 25), are supposedly “not interested in fairness.” Some 25 years ago, a friend’s father said that he had no choice but to contribute to his union’s political funds, even though he was diametrically opposed to the candidates they supported. I was shocked and furious that something like this could happen. Union members deserve to have more control over their hard-earned wages.
Perhaps at the ballot box union members will reclaim part of their paychecks. This will never stop them from individually contributing to the candidate of their choice. What could be more American?
