Fund Established for Widows of Gang Violence

White Memorial Medical Center set up a fund Monday for young women who have lost their boyfriends or husbands to gang violence.
More than a dozen people called offering to help these women after reading a story in The Times Saturday detailing the lives of two gang widows in Boyle Heights.
Donations will go to Yanira Lupe Rivas and Maricela Acuna, who lost their boyfriends to gang violence, as well as other young widows in the neighborhood.
“Every little bit helps so much,” said Nancy Yepes, the hospital’s parish nurse who counsels gang widows. “So much is needed to help these girls.”
Checks made out to “Parish Nurse Program” can be sent to White Memorial Medical Center, Attn: Nancy Yepes, Parish Nurse Manager, 1720 Cesar Chavez Ave., Los Angeles 90033.
Information: (213) 260-5887.
