New Mass Graves Found in Sumatra

Local residents in Indonesia’s Aceh province said they had found two new mass graves believed to contain the bodies of people killed by troops suppressing an armed insurgency in the early 1990s. The graves are in a forest about 10 miles from a highway that links the provincial capital of Banda Aceh to the north Sumatran capital of Medan. The sites are about six miles from an area that residents call “skeleton valley,” where troops had allegedly buried hundreds of people killed in a crackdown on a separatist insurgency in the province.
