Ohye Has a 79, Ends Nine Off

Justin Ohye of Calabasas shot a 79 in the final round and finished nine strokes behind winner Jason Hartwick of Sacramento in the boys’ division of the Colorado Junior Roundup, sponsored by the American Junior Golf Assn., at Legacy Ridge Golf Course in Westminster, Colo., on Friday.
Ohye finished at 71-75-79--225.
Darrin Schneider of Northridge shot 81-76-77--234.
MOTOR SPORTS
The NASCAR Southwest Series, which has canceled today’s scheduled race at Sultana Raceway in Springville, Utah, because of a change in track promoters, resumes Aug. 29 at Colorado National Speedway in Denver.
M.K. Kanke of Granada Hills, the series points leader much of the season, has slipped to second after failing to finish three consecutive races.
Kanke was involved in crashes June 27 at Sears Point Raceway in Sonoma and Aug. 8 at Mesa Marin, and had mechanical problems July 11 at El Cajon Speedway.
Keith Spangler of Chatsworth has climbed from 15th to eighth in points in the past six Southwest Series races.
SOFTBALL
Kris Herman of Buena High has signed a letter of intent to play at Chico State, which moves to Division I in 1999.
Herman, a first baseman, batted .310 and had 15 extra-base hits last season.
FYI
Baseball, football and soccer camps are being offered from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday at Balboa Park in Encino.
The camps, for ages 5 through 15, are run through the Center for Excellence in Marina del Rey.
Tryouts for the Valley Breeze 18-and-under girls’ fast-pitch softball club will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 29 and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 30 at El Cariso Park in Sylmar.
