LOS ANGELES — Two people were killed in separate attacks less than 90 minutes apart, police said Tuesday.
James Terry, 32, walked out of a liquor store on the 2800 block of West Slauson Avenue at about 7 p.m. Monday and was confronted by two men, said Los Angeles Police Det. Carlos Velasquez.
One of the men took out a handgun and shot Terry during an argument, Velasquez said. Terry died at a local hospital. His attackers fled and remain at large.
A second man, Dewon Scott, 26, was killed at about 8:20 p.m., police said, during an attempted carjacking on the 1700 block of East 113th Street.
Scott was sitting with another man in his car, police said, when Garrick Morris, 18, tried to rob the men and steal the car.
During a struggle, Morris shot Scott, killing him, police said. Scott’s companion then wrestled the gun away from Morris and shot him.
Morris was listed in stable condition at a local hospital, Velasquez said, where he was arrested on suspicion of murder.
