Sue Bird, the starting point guard for the top-ranked Connecticut women, has suffered a season-ending knee injury.
Tests revealed that Bird suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament during Monday’s practice, said Dr. Jeffrey Anderson, Connecticut’s director of sports medicine. She will have to undergo surgery but the date hasn’t been set, he said.
“We need to discuss the possibilities of surgery with Sue and her family before we continue any further,” Anderson said.
Anderson said Bird should make a full recovery and be able to return to the team next season.
