After spending lavishly on free agents, the Seattle Seahawks are expected to fire Coach Dennis Erickson next week, perhaps as early as Monday, according to the Associated Press.
The Seahawks, 8-7 going into Sunday’s regular-season finale at Denver and out of the playoffs, are 31-32 in four seasons under Erickson.
Erickson, 51, arrived in Seattle to rebuild a franchise that was 14-34 in the three previous seasons under Tom Flores.

San Diego Charger interim Coach June Jones chose Craig Whelihan to start at quarterback for the season finale at Arizona but said that rookie Ryan Leaf will play too.

New England Patriot wide receiver Terry Glenn had season-ending surgery on his broken right ankle in Boston. . . . Oakland Raider cornerback Albert Lewis refused to confirm that Saturday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs, the only other team he played for, will be the last of his 16-year career. “I can’t say that until after the game, but it very well could be,” he said. “I made a promise to Coach [Jon] Gruden I wouldn’t talk about it until after the game.”
