Many Still Without Power After Storm

Linemen and tree trimmers toiled to restore power to thousands of homes and businesses in Virginia without electricity after a Christmas Eve ice storm. “We’re making good progress, but it’s tough going. Trees are down everywhere,” Virginia Power spokesman Dan Geneste said. About 120,000 customers were without power, down from about 285,000 at the peak of the outages Thursday, he said. “We’re hoping to get everyone back on by Wednesday.” Richmond, Williamsburg, Petersburg and Gloucester were hit hard by the storm, he said. On one road near Gloucester, 70 utility poles were downed. And, he said, about 50 trees were down in one block in Chester County.
