$1-Million Bail Set for 6 Kidnapping Suspects

SOUTH PASADENA — A judge set bail Monday at $1 million each for the six men charged with kidnapping a 9-year-old South Pasadena girl at gunpoint from her family’s home.
Pasadena Superior Court Judge Terry Smerling also delayed the arraignment of the six men, all Chinese nationals, to Jan. 4 to allow them time to arrange legal counsel, a clerk said.
The men--David Chiu, 38, Xiao Lin, 32, Giao Peng, 20, Peter Loo, 27, Chi-Ming Szeto, 26 and Daniel Wong, 19--were arrested Wednesday after a police operation involving more than 200 law enforcement officers.
They were arrested after one of them allegedly collected more than $200,000 in ransom and dropped the girl off in Rosemead.
Three masked gunmen burst into the home of a business owner last Tuesday and tied up his relatives and housekeeper before taking the his daughter, police said.
