Cougars Remain Unbeaten

Capistrano Valley, ranked No. 1 in Orange County, limited sixth-ranked Mater Dei to four shots and Jessica Krause and Chandra King scored the goals to give the Cougars the victory, 2-0, in a South Coast League girls’ soccer game Monday at Capistrano Valley High.
Haley Kuhn posted her 12th shutout of the season with one save for the unbeaten Cougars (18-0-3, 5-0-1 in league).
Krause broke a scoreless tie with three minutes remaining in the first half, scoring off a pass from Janelle Hillseth. King added her goal five minutes into the second half.
Kelsey Kollen had eight saves for Mater Dei (11-3-2, 2-3-1).
In the Academy League:
St. Margaret’s 9, Capistrano Valley Christian 0--Natalie Comerford had two goals and three assists for host St. Margaret’s (6-2, 5-0).
In the Garden Grove League:
Pacifica 7, Los Amigos 0--Mary Molloy and Teri Emmons each had two goals and an assist for visiting Pacifica (18-4, 8-0).
In the Golden West League:
Rosary 5, Westminster 2--Tymarie Novak and Annie Saavedra each scored two goals for host Rosary (7-8-2, 6-0).
In Garden Grove League boys’ soccer:
Bolsa Grande 1, Rancho Alamitos 1--Cesar Yepez scored off Guillermo Salinas’ assist with four minutes remaining for host Bolsa Grande (4-11-2, 2-6-1). Rancho Alamitos is 7-1-2 in league.
Santiago 2, Garden Grove 1--Albert Diaz scored the tying goal in the 50th minute then Adan Chavez scored the game-winner with four minutes remaining for visiting Santiago (8-8-4, 5-2-2).
In Academy League boys’ basketball:
St. Margaret’s 70, St. Michael’s 53--Alex Huff had 20 points, 12 rebounds, six assists and five steals for St. Margaret’s (7-11, 3-3).
In the Garden Grove League:
Bolsa Grande 74, Rancho Alamitos 50--Jon James had 16 points for host Bolsa Grande (18-5, 8-1), ranked No. 6 in Division III-AA.
Garden Grove 52, Santiago 45--Justin Clarkson scored a game-high 22 points for host Garden Grove (3-19, 2-6).
Pacifica 95, Los Amigos 46--Adam Rachlin, who had 12 points, made his one free throw and has made 54 consecutive foul shots for host Pacifica (18-4, 8-0).
In Garden Grove League girls’ basketball:
Garden Grove 43, Santiago 41 (OT)--Lorena Davis, who scored a game-high 16 points, made a three-pointer with 35 seconds remaining in overtime to provide the winning margin for host Garden Grove (14-9, 6-2).
Sega Asiata scored 11 of her 15 points in fourth quarter to help Santiago (13-10, 5-4) erase a 13-point deficit and force overtime.
Pacifica 62, Los Amigos 40--Jaymee Pendergast had 22 points and nine rebounds for Pacifica (14-7, 8-0), which led, 38-14, at halftime.
Maria Curiel scored 14 points for Los Amigos (7-12, 4-5).
Rancho Alamitos 48, Bolsa Grande 35--Eurydyka Ciejka had 20 points and 13 rebounds for Rancho Alamitos (10-12, 4-5).
