Tara Mounsey, the top-scoring defenseman for the U.S. women’s national hockey team in pre-Olympic play, probably will sit out the team’s Olympic opener against China on Sunday because of a sprained knee.
Mounsey, who played college hockey at Brown, injured her knee Jan. 28. Her status is day to day. She sat out the team’s final pre-Olympic game, a 10-0 rout of Japan on Wednesday at Aqua Wing. Winger Alana Blahoski took some turns on defense in Mounsey’s place and might play there again if Mounsey isn’t able to play.
