Pepperdine Takes Care of No. 1 BYU

George Roumain had 28 kills to help Pepperdine defeat Brigham Young, 15-13, 15-12, 15-8, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s volleyball match at Firestone Fieldhouse on Thursday night.
Scott Wong had 16 kills for the Waves (5-1, 4-1 in conference play), the No. 3-ranked team in the American Volleyball Coaches’ Assn. poll and the No. 4-ranked squad by Volleyball magazine.
Ossie Antonetti had 19 kills and six digs for BYU (3-1, 3-1), ranked first by Volleyball magazine and second by the AVCA.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
The Master’s 96, Pacific Christian 86--Joclin Julmist had 16 points, eight rebounds, four assists and five steals for the Mustangs in a nonconference victory at The Master’s.
Master’s Coach Bill Oates recorded his 125th victory against 37 losses in five seasons at the school.
Jerome Joseph scored 18 points for Master’s (17-9).
Steve Carter scored 34 points for Pacific Christian (4-24).
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Pierce 50, West L.A. 45--Felicia Flores 16 points for the Brahmas (6-18, 2-6) in a Western State Conference South Division victory at Pierce.
BASEBALL
Cal Lutheran JV 16, Ventura 4--Jeremy Schlosser went four for four with a home run and four runs batted in for the Kingsmen (1-0) in a Mt. SAC tournament victory.
The Master’s 5, Riverside Cal Baptist 4--Dan Cato had three hits and drove in two runs for the Mustangs (2-0) at The Master’s.
