Reagan Airport

Re “Bill to Rename National Airport for Reagan Clears Both Houses,” Feb 5: Ronald Reagan is beloved by many Americans. We knew he would stand behind his convictions, immovable as a rock.
His belief system let him down, however, when he fired the overworked air traffic controllers. Their strike was an act of desperation; his answer was an act of folly; air traffic safety was seriously compromised for many years.
An appropriate symbolic action would be to carve Ronald Reagan’s face on Mt. Rushmore.

* OK, let’s think this through. The president who submitted the first balanced budget in nearly 30 years and is suspected of lying about a fling with a young woman is being threatened with impeachment. The president who quadrupled the national debt and lied about selling arms to terrorists to finance the overthrow of a sovereign nation (both against stated government policy) is being honored by having an airport named after him.
Looks like the conservatives have been right all along: We do have some seriously twisted priorities.
