Domkes Deliver on Two Fronts

John Domke, who coached Village Christian to five consecutive Alpha League girls’ basketball titles, has captured his sixth in a row.
Domke’s Frazier Mountain team needed a 57-45 victory over L.A. Baptist on Thursday to tie Maranatha for the championship, but Domke had little time to relax.
Domke was at his wife’s side Friday when doctors induced labor.
What was more stressful, the run for Frazier Mountain’s first title or the birth of his son Nathan?
“For me, it’s a tossup,” Domke said. “But it’s probably a better question for my wife.”

The La Reina High soccer team, normally a Tri-Valley League power, finished third for the first time since the 1988-89 season.
Although Coach Joe Laraneta said he wasn’t pleased with the Regents’ finish, he doesn’t expect to stay there long.
“I knew that was coming this year,” Laraneta said.
La Reina had a roster of six freshmen, five sophomores and five seniors.
