Defending champion: Covina Western Christian.
Top teams: Covina Western Christian (20-3); Palos Verdes Chadwick (21-1); Lone Pine (20-1); Los Angeles Pilgrim (18-7).
Dark horse: Long Beach St. Anthony (14-10). The Saints have won nine of the last 10 with their only loss coming against second-seeded Chadwick. Four players averaged in double figures during league play, which makes St. Anthony tough. “We’re playing as well as anybody in the division right now,” St. Anthony Coach Eric Thorson said.
Top players: Leanne Bennett (Los Angeles Ribet), Edith Guerra (St. Anthony), Ruth Lazzari (Connelly), Lisa Luyben (St. Anthony), Andrea Opfer (St. Anthony), Jamie Poon (Connelly), Melissa Sands (Capistrano Valley Christian), Charlene Simril (Western Christian).
Notes: Orange County is represented by Connelly (18-0), which won the Academy League, and third-place finisher Capistrano Valley Christian. The Eagles (7-15) edged Fairmont for one of the eight wild-card berths after defeating the Huskies, 35-30, in overtime Wednesday.
