OXNARD — An explosion caused by a kitchen cleaning mishap blew out apartment windows and injured a 34-year-old man Thursday, fire officials said.
Ramon Camareno was fumigating his kitchen oven with an aerosol can of pesticide at about 10:39 a.m. when the fumigant came in contact with the pilot light and ignited, said Oxnard Fire Department Capt. Sal Velasquez.
The blast that resulted shattered the front windows of Camareno’s apartment in the 1900 block of North H Street, but did not start a fire.
Velasquez, who was alone in the residence at the time, suffered minor burns on his arms and was treated at the scene.
