UC Irvine 65, Long Beach State 59--Jason Flowers provided a huge lift offensively and Irvine smothered Long Beach center Andrew Betts as the Anteaters (8-15, 5-8 in the Big West) moved into a tie for second place in the conference’s Western Division with a victory at Irvine.
Flowers, who scored 15 points in Irvine’s previous five games--all losses--scored 25 points. He scored Irvine’s first seven points and also made four free throws in the last 1 minute 30 seconds.
Long Beach is 10-15, 5-8.
