British brewer Bass recalled 17 million cans and bottles of its beer, about half of its weekly production, after finding that some had been contaminated by a chemical coolant. Few are expected to be affected by the coolant, mono-propylene-glycol, which gives the beer an unpleasant taste and may be harmful if consumed in excessive quantities, the brewer said. The contamination was caused by a faulty cooling process at one of Bass’ eight plants in England.

Motorola Inc. will sign a contract with the Slovak government to buy troubled telecommunications equipment producer Tesla Piestany, the economics ministry said, noting that Motorola will be the first company to be granted a 10-year “tax holiday” under a new exemption for foreign investors.
