* Oakland-based Golden West Financial Corp. said second-quarter earnings rose 34% as the gap widened between interest paid on deposits and that collected on loans and securities. Golden West said net income rose to $117 million from $87.3 million in the same period last year. The increase included a one-time gain. Without the gain, the thrift earned $1.88 per diluted share, vs. $1.51 a year ago.
