Lucy and Desi set off in their “The Long, Long Trailer” in a 1954 Mercury Monterey convertible (“Just Can’t Top This,” by Paul Dean, June 25). The film crew discovered to its dismay that even with the brand-new overhead-valve Y-block that Mercury introduced that year, the car steamed like a Stanley on mountain roads. If you watch the film closely, there is an identical-color ’54 Lincoln ragtop doing the pulling in some scenes.
