Former Alabama Gov. George C. Wallace was hospitalized for a respiratory illness, the second time in two months. Wallace, 78, was admitted to the intensive-care unit at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery after undergoing treatment in the emergency room for an illness related to “a chronic respiratory condition,” a hospital spokesman said. Wallace was conscious, appeared to be in good spirits and knew where he was, the spokesman said. Paralyzed from the waist down and suffering from Parkinson’s disease, Wallace was hospitalized with an upper respiratory infection in June.
