Anaya Resigns as Kennedy Coach

Manny Anaya has resigned as girls’ basketball coach at Kennedy High, Athletic Director Janet Berardi said.
Anaya, a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy, was a walk-on coach. In two seasons, Anaya had a 26-28 record. The Fighting Irish were 18-10 this season but finished 5-5 and in fourth place in the Empire League.

Rick Farino of Mission Viejo has agreed to play football at Cal State Northridge this fall, Coach Bill Denny said. Farino, an offensive tackle, was three-year starter and a first-team All-South Coast League selection.

The state Division I boys’ basketball playoff pairings for Northern California have been held up because of a protest. They are expected to be released today.
As a result, the four first-round games in the North will be played Wednesday night, with the winners playing Thursday’s second round as planned.
All other regional openers in all five divisions in the state will be played tonight.
