Huntington Beach Pitchers Combine for No-Hitter, Loss

Huntington Beach’s Jeff Lineberger, Corey Keener and Jason Knighton combined to pitch a no-hitter, but came up short as Edison defeated the Oilers, 4-1, in a Sunset League game Saturday at Edison. The Huntington Beach pitchers combined for 10 walks and hit a batter.
Andrew Rodriguez pitched a five-hitter for host Edison (5-2, 1-1).
Tony Cappucelli had two runs batted in for the Chargers.
Huntington Beach falls to 4-3, 1-1 in league.
In the Newport Elks baseball tournament:
Mater Dei 11, Esperanza 6--Jon Kinney’s two-run homer capped a five-run sixth for Mater Dei in a third-place game. The game was a makeup game from March 14, when rain made Esperanza’s field unplayable.
Kinney had three hits and four RBIs for the Monarchs (6-1). Teammate Brett Kay had a home run and three RBIs.
Esperanza falls to 5-2-1.
In nonleague baseball:
Fountain Valley 10-2, Grossmont 5-5--Todd Daniels was four for four in the second game with a home run, two doubles, three RBIs and three runs for Fountain Valley (6-2).
La Quinta 10-13, Buena Park 0-7--Steve Lee pitched a one-hitter in the first game of a doubleheader for La Quinta (10-0).
