Golden West Men Win 4th Consecutive Title

Albert and Felix Sutanto each set national records for the Golden West men’s swimming team, which easily won its fourth consecutive community college state championship Saturday at Ventura College.
The Rustlers won 14 of 18 events to finish with 614 points. Diablo Valley (374) was second, followed by Cuesta (334) and Orange Coast (260.5).
Albert Sutanto bettered his national record in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1 minute 46.55 seconds. He previous record was 1:47.91. Gus Fowler of Orange Coast finished second, almost a second behind.
Felix Sutanto set a national record in the 200 backstroke, winning in 1:47.13. He won the high-point swimmer award for the state meet for the second consecutive year. The brothers are from Indonesia.
Vicha Ratanchote (100 freestyle) and Audy Okatvian (200 breaststroke) also won Saturday for the Rustlers. Aaron Fitterer finished fourth in the 100 freestyle and Denny Kurniawan was third in the 200 breaststroke for Golden West.
The state title is the fifth of the school year for Golden West, which won in men’s and women’s water polo and women’s volleyball in the fall and men’s volleyball this spring.
In women’s swimming, Orange Coast’s Chintya Ganda won the 100 backstroke and Gennifer Amthor finished second in the 100 butterfly. The Pirates were second to Riverside, which had 389.5 points. Orange Coast had 371.5 followed by Golden West (329).
Orange Coast lost to Riverside in a dual meet this season but beat the Tigers in the Orange Empire Conference meet last weekend.
The Pirates’ 200 medley relay team was third behind Riverside and Ventura.
Rebecca Levine, who was third in the 100 freestyle, had the Rustlers’ highest individual finish Saturday.
