Center Lowers Fee for Citizenship Drive

The San Juan Macias Orientation Immigrant Center undertakes a monthlong citizenship drive this monthto celebrate its 20th anniversary.
The center will process naturalization forms for permanent legal residents for $20. The normal fee is $50, but the nonprofit center hopes the lower fee will encourage more applicants.
“We just hope to break even on this drive. The important thing is for people to know that citizenship is not automatic,” said outreach director Felipe Kofman.
“It’s a choice, and a matter of filling out the right forms properly.”
The center, which is accredited by the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, will provide each applicant a United States citizenship civil exam study guide including a videotape.
The center is at 13672 Van Nuys Blvd. For information, call (818) 896-1156.
