South Bay Hospital Ending Emergency Care
Emergency services will cease at South Bay Medical Center beginning Monday as part of plan to lease the hospital to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance, which plans to convert it into an outpatient care facility.
Little Company of Mary plans to open the Beach Cities Ambulatory Care Center on June 1, providing urgent and primary care to residents in Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach.
Tenet Healthcare Corp., the private operator that leases the hospital, announced earlier this year that it was leaving June 1, even though its lease is not up until 2014. The Beach Cities Health District, the elected board that manages the medical center, opted to close the hospital and turn it over to a proven provider in the area.
