Police and Deputies to Play Football

OXNARD — Bragging rights are on the line today as police officers countywide band together to compete against the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department in the 16th annual Pride Bowl, a charity tackle football game.
Kickoff between the Ventura County Sheriff Stars and the Ventura County Police Raiders is set for 6:30 p.m. at the new Oxnard High School football stadium, 3400 W. Gonzales Road.
Cost for the event, sponsored by the Oxnard Police Department’s Police Activities League, is $5 a person, and tickets are available at any police department or sheriff’s station. Neighborhood Watch organizations and Oxnard merchants also have tickets.
Children 5 and younger will be admitted free.
Afterward, there will be a party, the “Red Bull Afterburner,” at River Ridge Golf Course, 2401 Vineyard Ave., in Oxnard. Only those at least 18 years old may attend.
Proceeds will benefit league programs and the memorial fund of Peter Aguirre, a sheriff’s deputy who was killed in the line of duty.
