A protest of Proposition 226, a June ballot measure that would require unions to obtain members’ approval for political contributions, will be held Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at Ventura College.
The event is sponsored by the Ventura County Federation of College Teachers.
“Corporations, business groups and other membership organizations don’t have to get signed permission before spending stockholders’ and members’ money on political activities,” said Edward McElroy, the organization’s secretary and the event’s featured speaker. “Proposition 226 would silence workers and the unions that represent them.”
Backers of the measure say workers should have a say about where their union dues go.
The rally will be in Room UV-2 at the college, 4667 Telegraph Road. For more information, call 650-0066.
