Authorities identified the bodies Monday of a man and woman killed over the weekend in an apparent murder-suicide as the couple’s two young children played outside.
Police said Manuel Sida, 28, shot and killed 22-year-old Irma Melendez, the mother of his children, at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, then killed himself.
San Fernando Det. Lance Steaman said the couple had been separated for about six months when Sida went to the woman’s garage apartment.
Steaman said Melendez’s neighbors heard several gunshots, but none said they heard any arguments. There were no witnesses.
Sida had no criminal history, Steaman said. Detectives were trying to determine whether police had responded to any domestic violence calls at their previous addresses.
The couple’s children, a 4-year-old daughter and a 6-year-old son, have been placed with an aunt, authorities said.
