GLENDORA — Three inmates who escaped Wednesday night from a California Department of Corrections fire suppression camp at the San Gabriel Dam were captured Thursday after being spotted near here.
The prisoners, who were serving time for drug-related offenses, escaped from Julius Klein Fire Camp 18 in Azusa about 6 p.m. Wednesday, authorities said,
After guards at the camp spotted footprints in the Angeles National Forest, authorities called for help from local law enforcement agencies.
Shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday, Luis Guthrie, 29, of Los Angeles County; Jose Lopez, 25, of Los Angeles County; and Alejandro Medina of Orange County were seen in Dalton Park above Glendora by two residents who had heard news reports of the escape.
A Department of Corrections special enforcement unit from Lancaster swooped into the area and captured the three, officials said.
