Threat of Violence Shuts Parts of Capital

Large parts of Indonesia’s capital shut down for fear of more clashes between security forces and students demanding the nation’s top legislative body take concrete steps on political reform. Street battles late Thursday claimed at least two lives. Today is the last day of a special session of the People’s Consultative Assembly, the top lawmaking authority, which is meant to usher in political reform. Students say the body will not go far enough.
