Hostages Exchanged as Killings Continue

Two Serbian civilians held since Wednesday by separatist guerrillas in Kosovo were released in exchange for seven ethnic Albanians remaining in Serbian hands, according to the parties involved. The hostage swap took place amid news of two new killings that underscored tensions in the restive Serbian province. A Yugoslav soldier was killed on the road connecting Pristina, the provincial capital, and Prizren, and two others were wounded, said a diplomatic observer who spoke on condition of anonymity. Witnesses in the village of Mlecane said Serbian police fired on a group of ethnic Albanian men and children, killing a 40-year-old man. The Kosovo Information Center, which is close to the ethnic Albanian leadership, also reported the violence.
