Festival Focuses on Multicultural Harmony

Hoping to build a dialogue and friendship among ethnic groups in Watts, a Buddhist lay organization is organizing its first Inner City Culture Festival on Sunday at Markham Middle School.
“Too often there is so much focus on conflict and disharmony between ethnic groups in Los Angeles,” said Leon Jones, one of the organizers. “We’re attempting to build bridges of harmony and friendship.”
Jones said the festival, which is titled “Transforming Discord Into Harmony for the New Century,” will include exhibits, a play and performances ranging from rap music to Peruvian folk dancers to Korean taiko drummers.
The festival is free and is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the school, 1650 E. 104th St.
