Preseason Prospects for 3 New Movie Arrivals
- Share via
The weekend’s three arrivals have a three-week window before the first of the holiday heavy-hitters arrive in early November.
“Practical Magic” has the commercial edge--here and abroad--to squeeze into break even. “Bride of Chucky” should have a predictable stay in theaters through Halloween and perhaps squeak into profit in the video market, where horror films do disproportionately well.
With unclear international prospects, the best hope for “Beloved” is a strong presence at Oscar time to bring in some additional box-office receipts and a solid network TV sale.
