Cal State Fullerton staffer Mary Ann Spraic received the Youth Advocate Award on Friday from the Orange County chapter of the National Assn. of Women Business Owners.
Spraic, senior director of development at Cal State Fullerton, is one of several women honored for outstanding business and professional achievements.
She won praise for her work with Project MISS, or Mathematics Intensive Summer Session, a program that encourages young women to pursue careers in science and math.
She created a yearlong mentoring program for Project MISS students in which successful businesswomen shared their life stories with students at luncheon meetings.
Spraic has taught anthropology at various community colleges in Southern California for 17 years. She also has worked as a volunteer fund-raiser and board member with educational, arts and youth sports organizations.
