City Donates $2,500 to Drug Program

The city has donated $2,500 to the South Orange County Drug Court in support of the program.
The sometimes controversial program provides extensive drug testing and probation counseling for convicted drug offenders instead of jail. The city’s donation could support one participant for about a year.
However, the money will most likely be spent on patches to detect drug use, said Bob Nesmith, chief of police services for the city.
The funds are part of an annual law enforcement allowance from the state.
Mayor Peter Herzog, who attended a recent drug court graduation, said, “The former addicts most impressed me” with their gratitude for the program.
